The students' favourite game! This is the original version. In teams (blue & red), pupils answer a question and choose a square from the opponents’ grid. Their opponents then get that score. They are allowed to steal one score only from their opponents throughout the game. An ‘X’ is a wipeout and wipes the opponents’ score.

There are 2 different boards in this PPT. The first has 6 correct answers, the second has 8. Simply change the text in the boxes to facts/correct statements or false statements. Students then guess by clicking on the ones they think are correct. A tick reveals if correct and a cross if incorrect.

My students LOVE Donate or Steal and this is an alternative version. There are other Donate or Steal templates available. In teams (blue & red), pupils answer a question and choose a square from the opponents’ grid. Their opponents then get that score. They are allowed to steal one score only from their opponents throughout the game. An ‘X’ is a wipeout and wipes the opponents’ score. Here, teams can choose to use one of their stars on the score for the opposite team. This can be used only on the opposite team’s total score, not the score they have just revealed. This has to be done straight after revealing the opposite team’s score. It can only be used once – click on the star to use it.

Insert random words, or words from the current topic into each slide. Then, press F5 to start the presentation loop. Press ‘S’ to stop and start the loop again. For each random word it lands on, students have to include it in a paragraph or a 1-minute talk, for example.

Copy pictures or type words into each of the blue boxes. Pupils choose a box by saying the word or phrase (or a sentence) represented by the picture/word. Click on that picture/word if they get it right and reveal the random points they get for their team. A lot of luck involved here!

There is an example included in this template. Pupils must name a word in French associated with the topic of, for example, physical appearance. If they mention any of the words you came up with as teacher, they are awarded the points you allocated to that word.

In teams, pupils choose a number. Click on the number and reveal a phrase to translate. Whether they are right or not, click on the translation to reveal a score. If their translation was correct, they get the revealed score (good or bad!). If their translation was incorrect, the other team get that score. There are 3 wipeouts (clears their score – positive or negative) and a ‘swap score’. To add your phrases to be translated, select and move the red shapes (the editable translation shapes are underneath).

Type words or a couple of words into each white box underneath the letters. This could be a text or a sequence of numbers, letters, etc. Get the pupils on their feet. As you read through each box, they should raise their Left, Right or Both hands appropriately. You could get them to read with you, get another pupil to read instead of you or maybe even read it increasingly quickly.

This is a great starter idea to practise new vocab. You will probably have to explain the concept of the letters on the number pads of phones. Use the grid to spell out words using numbers, instead of letters (e.g. 'B' is 22 and 'Y' is 999).
'Elevens' with phrases

Choose eleven phrases. Pupils take it in turns in groups, or as a class, to say the phrases in order. If they say one phrase, the sequence of people speaking continues as normal. If a pupils says two phrases, the order changes direction so the person before them says the next phrase(s). If a pupils says three phrases, the next person is missed. This PPT allows you to display both the chosen phrases and a reminder of the instructions.

Use this as a printout for students to complete pairwork on any given topic. Fill in the title bars for the pupils or get them to do this themselves. One pupil fills in the explosions and the other has to predict where they are by giving the phrase for the corresponding coordinates, e.g. “J’aime les sciences”.

The writing wheel is designed as a support for pupils' writing, especially in a foreign language, which is one of the most difficult skills. Add different elements of a paragraph into each circle, starting from the centre and working your way out. Then print out one or both slides (depending on how much you want pupils to write) as support for pupils’ writing.
